2018 marked the start of a new opportunity for Mosinee youth. The Mosinee Sportsmen’s Alliance (MSA) collaborated with the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) and the Mosinee School District to join the Great Northern Conference (GNC) in Trap Shooting, a shotgun shooting sport.   Teams in the GNC include Stevens Point (SPASH), Wausau Skeet & Trap (Wausau Schools), Antigo, Merrill, Tomahawk, Lakeland, Rhinelander, Medford, and Eagle River.

WHO:

Shooters in grades 5 through college, living in the Mosinee area, are invited to participate. The athletes are required to have six practice rounds completed before the beginning of the season with League shooting beginning the first week in April.  We will announce practice dates at the Mandatory Athlete/Parent Meeting in January.

WHAT/WHERE:

Athletes shoot each week (once per week, on one of 2 defined days) through the beginning of June. Most shoots are completed virtually at the Mosinee Sportsmen’s Alliance, 720 Cty Rd B, Mosinee, with a final face-to-face Conference match with date/location to be announced.  The team will also compete the State SCTP shoot in Rome, WI at the WTA Homegrounds in June.   Opportunities exist to participate in various shoots throughout the state and at Nationals at Marengo, Ohio.  SCTP is also a funnel for the Olympic team and there are opportunities to participate in camps.

Community Support

Your support is so very important to our future growth!

Only four short years ago, our program kicked off with 25 youth.  We aligned with the Mosinee School District, teams in the Great Northern Conference and participated in the Conference Shootouts and at the SCTP State shoot since 2018.  We’ve grown rapidly to a team with over 70 members and seventeen formal volunteers and assistant coaches.

2021 brought us more “firsts.”

We had an athlete, Brock Seis, shoot 100/100 targets in his Senior year.  We took athletes to a new event in Wabeno, WI.  Brock won the overall high shooter at this event.

We won 4/5 classes in the Great Northern Conference league, 4/5 classes in the Conference ShootOut and took many individual medals.

At the State Championships, our Rookie squad took 3rd place (out of 22 teams) and Lexie Flees won the 4th place medal in the JV class. We had an athlete compete in the Handicap Trap event for the very first time in addition to our regular Singles Trap event at State.

We also had our first recipient of a $500 SCTP scholarship, Tucker Stepan.

For the first time, we took six athletes to Nationals at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio.  Kaeden Ludwig landed in 6th place in the Nation in his class!  In 2022, we plan to return with double the number of athletes and compete in additional events during the week.

Our community shooting team has a MidwayUSA Foundation Team Endowment and every donation we receive for that endowment is matched! You can donate right to our team through their website and 100% of your donation benefits our team and will be matched and your donation is tax-deductible!

2022 looks to be the best year yet but these events and opportunities are expensive and our Midway account will help to support these activities.  As this account grows, we will become more and more self-sufficient!  Any donation, no matter the size, is greatly appreciated!
